Can the NHS be a learning healthcare system in the age of digital technology?

Overview- Provide a description of your selected topic based on input from the discussion forum. What is your project, why is it relevant to this class, and why is it important to you? Understanding how things work (and in some case don’t work) is crucial to the development of a new and better way. Just adding computers, databases, and communications into the way a group of people work does not necessarily result in improvement. This is particularly true when the people doing the implementation are not deeply familiar with the culture of the organization they are trying to serve. One key lesson we have learned is that taking the current manual process and moving it on to a computer system is seldom an improvement. There are certain things that people are good at doing, things that people are *not* good at doing, things that computers are good at doing, and finally things that are not yet appropriate for a computer to do. Using computers in ways that align well with what they can do while offloading work humans don’t do so well is critical. The heart of the issue is understanding the roles people play and the process that integrates all of these people in a complex web of service and value generation. This module focuses on projects and the transformation to fully electronic medical records. While you learn about those concepts, we need you to appreciate that true innovation is usually not just doing the old way on the computer. Rather it is discovering a totally new way of working that was not possible before the computer came along and then helping everyone shift and change roles and become skilled at them to the point that patient care is actually enhanced, as opposed to compromised. Discussion Question: Based on your research, what conclusions have you been able to draw related to your final presentation topic? Please describe your final presentation topic and the conclusions you have drawn from the literature you have researched. Are practice changes recommended for your current practice? Why or why not? (I do not recommend any changes to my current practice when it comes to informatics in my practice when its related to medication administration because it’s all transitioned to pc documentation) However, change is needed for new hires because there is no education training in documentation Your initial posting should be at least 400 words in length. Please reply to at least two classmates. Replies to classmates should be at least 200 words in length. Writer, this is a continuation (I had and identified and explained the topic selected for the project listed below with my references). -Issues I encountered when searching the web is the amount of information. Last weeks discussion I discussed patient safety and healthcare in Oncology with regards to chemotherapy medication administration, informatics role in healthcare and the need for better education. References are also listed below, please reach out for any concerns or questions. I did not find a reference in informatics related to the importance of education for new hires to a facility. If you can kindly assist with this greatly appreciated Hebda, T, Hunter, K, & Czar, P. (2019). Handbook of informatics for nurses and healthcare professionals (6th ed.). New York, NY: Pearson.
